BLOGBURST
BLOGBURST
BlogBurst, the blog content syndication service owned by Pluck, is now paying bloggers. The BlogBurst Rewards Program, which is being announced to users today, pays for performance, with the top five users on the leaderboard earning $1000 or more per quarter. That’s not a huge sum if you’re already monetizing your blog, but the team say that blogs in less popular categories, including sports, travel and lifestyle, are performing better than tech and politics blogs. In other words: they’re helping bloggers who may have had trouble making money in the past.
BlogBurst, you may remember, syndicates blog news on publisher sites like the Washington Post - they also credit you as the author and provide a link back to your blog. They’re now counting the total number of headline impressions, with only the top 100 bloggers getting paid. The number one BlogBurst member will get $1,500 this quarter, while the second place writer will get $1,250, with the amounts descending all the way to $50 for those in positions 81 to 100. This model is interesting because it’s the complete opposite of popular ad models like Google AdSense, where you can be paid a few cents a day for even unpopular sites. BlogBurst realized that the top 100 blogs on the network generated 79% of the headline impressions, and a leaderboard made more sense. Payments will be made via check or Paypal, they say. There is, however, a major drawback: only US bloggers are eligible. What’s more, you need to opt-in to the rewards program to get paid.
BlogBurst’s Rewards Program adds yet another way for bloggers to make money: you can sell ads, write about topics on services like PayPerPost, and now get paid for syndicating your content to other sites. The chances of being paid, however, seem slim, and the payouts might not be high enough to incentivize the very best bloggers
